December News Splash
December is the month of mistletoe, Christmas pudding and a few days off (if you’re lucky).
From everyone at Learning Pool we wish you a very Happy Christmas and a successful New Year.

That was the Year that was
We’ve had a busy year which is the way we like it! It’s been a year of growth, not just within team Learning Pool (there are now 28 of us) but within the Learning Pool community too. Here are a few of our highlights of the year; why not add yours?
We’re all looking forward to working with you in 2009.
Basildon’s Management Development Programme enhanced with new e-learning blend
Learning Pool’s content development team, headed up by Deborah Limb, has just delivered six e-learning modules on six separate topics to Basildon Council in just six weeks.
Aimed at Basildon’s managers, each e-learning module is 30 minutes long and covers a different people management policy. Subjects range from capability procedure and absence management to the authority’s dispute resolution procedure.
Share at Christmas (and win!)
Christmas is almost upon us, and the holiday can mean different things to different people but at Learning Pool we feel Christmas’s main appeal is sharing.
This can be done by sharing gifts with friends and loved ones, sharing Christmas dinner around the table and maybe even kisses under the mistletoe. But why not try something different this year and share the e-learning courses you’ve created with the Learning Pool community?
Environment and Climate change courses shared by LB Brent
LB Brent has recently updated its six Environment and Climate Change e-learning courses to reflect feedback from learners and colleagues.
The courses have been authored by the Environmental Policy and Projects team within the council using the Learning Pool authority tool and include an interactive game.
Introducing LPTV – free hosted online video storage
January 2009 will see the launch of an exciting new feature developed by Learning Pool called Learning Pool TV (LPTV).
This new service will give you access to an online video storage and sharing space where you can post files and make them available, only to your organisation or more widely across the Learning Pool community. These videos can then be linked to your DLE or included in any authored course.
In brief…
It’s a steal…
Have you heard about our latest e-learning deal with DeltaNet? We’ve done a recession busting deal on their Information Governance e-learning pack.
Containing over 3 hours of e-learning the pack features 4 separate e-learning courses on Information Security Assurance, Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Records Management.
Prices start at £2,000 for an annual subscription to the generic content for up to 2,500 employees.

Bury’s theme
Bury Council has just uploaded its fourth seasonal theme onto its DLE.
The snowy winter theme is one of four reflecting each season that Bury commissioned Learning Pool to create to enhance the look and feel of the DLE for its learners. Take a look at Bury’s site.
Ian Liggett said “ We feel that each of our four DLE themes emphasises the anytime, anywhere, advantage of online learning, and we wanted to make the site feel dynamic and alive in the same way that Google’s regular logo changes or the DLE’s RSS feeds feature do. With online learning environments and authoring, it can be easy to neglect the little touches which make a difference to users.
We believe that taking the time to create a pleasant, visually stimulating online learning environment for these learners is as important as our provision of suitably heated training rooms with comfortable chairs is to our tutor-led course participants.”
Aachoo! Want to collaborate?
Devon County Council is looking for information and possibly collaboration to produce e-learning about what to do in the event of a flu pandemic.
The council needs to create a suite of training in readiness for any eventual outbreak. We’re happy to author a course for Devon and would like to know if anyone wants to collaborate.
